Post-16 Citizenship activity at CSV Training and Enterprise North

CSV T&E North engages young people in activities that allow them to develop their citizenship and political awareness, through IT, Media Technology and various film production techniques.  This  includes planning a story board for a film, researching local government, none statutory, voluntary, community and faith sector organisations within their communities, exploring their own personal identity within their local community, planning a filming schedule & location research, interviewing techniques and interview planning, camera operation and filming techniques.

Citizenship coordinator's top tips for setting up post-16 citizenship activity:

  • Don't be put off by thinking this is complicated and complex subject - in its simplest meaning ‘citizenship’ is used to refer to the status of being a CITIZEN - being a member of a particular political community or state. CITIZENSHIP brings with it certain rights and responsibilities that are defined by law, such as the right to vote, the responsibility to pay tax and so on. The term ‘citizenship’ is also used to refer to involvement in public life and affairs — that is to the behaviour and action of citizens. (Making Sense of Citizenship, Citizenship Foundation, 2006)
  • Keep your activity innovative yet simple - most often the fresh, simple ideas are the most successful
  • Think outside of the box - be creative.
