Joining the game: Themes for post-16 citizenship
Summary: This pack looks at the social and political debates surrounding the Olympic and Paralympic Games that raise important citizenship issues which are likely to be of interest to young people, such as how can political differences between competitor countries interfere with the Games, and how can ordinary people have a say in the preparation for the Games and the events surrounding them. The pack explores eight relevant themes and includes supporting materials and activities which can be used flexibly with learners and can be adapted for the circumstances and interests of different groups of young people and learning contexts. After researching, examining and debating these issues, young people may also wish to take action to influence the course of events, to get more involved and encourage others to do so as well. This pack has been awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark which recognises projects and events inspired by the London 2012 Games.
