Post-16 Citizenship activity at Envision
Envision enables young people to realise their capacity to make a difference. We do this by providing a supportive framework for young people to set up and run their own projects tackling issues of concern in their schools and local communities. Founded by four young people in 2000, Envision has developed a simple model which helps young people to develop the skills, awareness, confidence and motivation necessary to improve the world around them. Envision ties into three key linked policy areas:
- Education: Providing a forum for young people to explore their own social and moral responsibilities, get involved in improving their communities and develop skills and attitudes essential for effective political engagement.
- Volunteering: By taking a genuinely youth-led approach, Envision is able to make volunteering relevant and rewarding, engaging young people who would not normally get involved.
- Society and the environment: Concentrating on practical change, Envision supports young people to implement a range of social and environmental sustainability projects. Envision is an innovative vehicle for promoting sustainable behaviour in young people.
Citizenship coordinator's top tips for setting up post-16 citizenship activity:
- Create a genuine youth led approach which provides the opportunity for young people to identify their citizenship issues.
- Provide a supportive framework for young people to work within. Look at ways in which you can provide sustained weekly or monthly 'check ins'
- Build in reflection to draw out the learning
