Post-16 Citizenship activity at Youth Work Unit - Yorkshire and the Humber
The Youth Work Unit - Yorkshire and the Humber (YWU) is the strategic youth work development agency in the Yorkshire and Humber region.
It has a unique position and role. It brings together the dual functions of support and development of youth work, and is the representative voice of both the voluntary and Local Authority (LA) youth work sectors across the region.
The YWU is a focal point for those working in both sectors, facilitating the sharing of information and of practice, supporting managers and workers, and developing provision.
The YWU has continually supported, promoted and facilitated the sharing of good youth work practice across the region. An ongoing and essential element of good youth work is the promotion of the values and practice of active citizenship, involvement in the democratic process and creating opportunities for young people to gain a voice and opportunities to gain genuine influence. The Voice and Influence group is the primary vehicle for addressing citizenship issues, though we endeavour to maintain these values in all of the work we are involved in for example: Quality Assurance, via peer inspections and mystery shopper projects. The YWU is ideally placed to maintain, promote and monitor post-16 citizenship work and make and maintain contact with many statutory and voluntary youth organisations.

This could be via a range of methods including, e-mail information sharing networks, meetings, facilitating leaning workshops and other events as appropriate.
