For the sake of argument: discussion and debating skills for citizenship
Citizens need to be able to express their own views and listen to what others have to say. The best way to do this is through discussion and debate. This event, for staff working in post-16 education and training, explores how to use language persuasively, provides opportunities to consider appropriate techniques to develop skills for effective argument and uses engaging activities to encourage participation in discussion and public debate. There will be chance to share examples of good practice, experience activities for use with learners and select from a variety of resources and ideas to take back to own organisations.

More than having a say: learner voice and citizenship

Participants will explore the current understanding of 'what is the learner voice', its development in the context of the personalisation agenda, the LSC guidance on learner involvement, and the establishment of the national learner panel. An important feature of the day will be the contribution of young people committed to representing, extending and shaping youth voice within the education sector and beyond.
