1) Following the successful completion of the Post-16 Citizenship Development Programme the Quality Improvement Agency (QIA) has commissioned the Learning and Skills Network (LSN) to manage a new support programme for post-16 citizenship. The programme’s central aim is to disseminate as widely as possible, and build on, outcomes from the development programme in order to mainstream citizenship provision in post-16 education and training.
2) The Post-16 Citizenship Development Programme was established following the Crick report (2000), which recommended that citizenship should be offered to 16-19 year olds after comments on the worrying levels of apathy, ignorance and cynicism among young people about public life
3) LSN's mission is to improve the quality of post-16 education and training in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We do this through research to inform policy and practice, through helping to shape and communicate education policy, and through improvement and support programmes for organisations that deliver post-16 education and training. The work of LSN is supported by the Learning and Skills Council. For further information see the website at www.LSNeducation.org.uk
