East Midlands region getting to grips with post-16 active citizenship event (Lincoln College)
This ‘getting to grips with active citizenship’ was based on the same concept as the East region event.
Lincolnshire is a large rural county spread out across mostly flat landscape. Driving is time-consuming and public transport by road is not conducive to effective travel times and rail users need to travel convoluted routes into and out of London to reach other centres in the region.
Opening up opportunities to be involved in post-16 citizenship networking in the northern area of the region which currently has no network members other than Lincoln College was the objective of this event. 16 people attended after a concerted effort by the Lincoln College partners responsible for administering the event and the regional coordinator. A flyer with details of the workshop and booking form were circulated.
Responses to the programme for the event were very positive and all expressed how the day had been much more valuable to them than their initial expectations. A presentation from regional network leader Alan Wilkins outlined what's on offer from the support programme and the East Midlands regional network.
The workshop focused on modelling active approaches to post-16 citizenship, working with young people in an active way and youth voice and learner representation. Workshops covered:
