http://www.youthactionnetwork.org.uk/whippersnapper
We have a panel of judges meeting later this week to judge our Makin’ it Real nominations and the results will be revealed at our annual Awards and Celebration evening, during Shine 09, on Tuesday 17 February 2008. Watch this space for more information on Shine 09…
Your chance to Tell it like it is…
We want to hear even more of your experiences, so we’re inviting you to share your individual or project case studies with us for possible inclusion in activate or on our website. Not only will this give you the opportunity to shout about the fantastic work you and your young volunteers are doing, but by sending us your stories you could be in with a chance of winning a fantastic prize!
If your story appears in a forthcoming edition of activate or on our website then you will be entered into a quarterly prize draw. Each quarter, we will draw two lucky winners out of the hat: one young person and one organisation. Organisations will win £100, and young people will win £50 in vouchers (a choice of stores will be given).
In addition, the best case study we receive during the year will be acknowledged and rewarded at Shine 09 – our annual conference and awards event.

AWARDS
Do you know a young person who has taken action to make a difference in their community? Does a young person you know have an idea to create change?
If so, nominate them for a CHANGEit award!
CHANGEit, run by Common Purpose and sponsored by Deutsche Bank, recognises, supports and rewards young campaigners aged 11-18 who want to create a positive change in their communities.
CHANGEit has nothing to do with academic achievement, and everything to do with good citizenship and positive action. Campaigns can be big or small and deal with any issue. Judges are looking for passion, innovation and the determination to create change.
Every young person nominated will receive a certificate of recognition. Winners will be announced at an award ceremony in spring 2009.
CHANGEit will award prizes of up to £750 in three categories:
- Innovation – for young people with ideas to improve their community, who need training or support to get their campaign off the ground.
- Performance – to celebrate the achievements of young campaigners who have already taken positive action.
Photo contest – young people’s photos that capture ‘campaigning in action’ that was started or helped by young people.

Care about climate change? Then get involved in The LifeShift Project!
Climate change is arguably the biggest global issue facing humans. We need to tackle it by changing our values, lifestyles and working practices. Adopting a low carbon and sustainable lifestyle is the only viable solution in the long run.
Because half the world’s population is under 20 years old, LifeShift believes that young people will be the main actors of change in the near future. In that way, the LifeShift project aims to enable young people to think, communicate, travel, consume and live in a sustainable way.
LifeShift wants to achieve its aims by developing and promoting activities, training courses and events, for and by young people. Its first project will be to set up training courses for young leaders to enable them to run workshops about sustainable lifestyle for leaders of youth and student groups as well as organise sustainable events for young people.
LifeShift is looking for young people across Europe who care about climate change to get involved in its network.
